Lisa

Lisa is 49 and diagnosed in November 2016 with uterine cancer.

Lisa's story

You can’t really say it any other way.   “Cancer Sucks!”   I lost my younger sister, to breast cancer almost three years ago.  My mother had cervical cancer in her 40s.  I have friends who had cancer as children and have been living with the after affects for their entire lives.  The other beautiful women sharing their stories have overcome so much and some are still traveling this journey.   They are ROCK STARS!!!  Cancer affects soooo many people, but still you never really imagine it will happen to you... Until it does.

I didn’t know I had cancer until waking up from surgery.  A hysterectomy due to a large non-cancerous uterine fibroid.  The cancerous tumor discovered during surgery was 2 lbs … an aggressive form of uterine cancer.  This in addition to the fibroid.   What???!  Where did this come from?  Why did the doctor not know?  Soooooo many questions and the one never answered is “WHY?”

So we take the journey through chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries and maybe clinical trials if there are no other options.  We travel this path as women with strength and grace...  with selflessness... and yes, sometimes we might even kick and scream!   We cry … a lot.

A great thank you to the Crowns of Courage project for giving women back what seemed lost … their beauty, their joy, their optimism … and some peace.  Empowerment!   We are not alone.

Almost one year after the cancer diagnosis, I am done with treatments.  Whew!!  Hopefully to never have it recur again.   I will forever be thankful for the endless love and support from ALL of those in my life that have helped me stay strong! Peace.
